Is Wolfworthy suitable for weaning a puppy?

Wolfworthy is suitable for weaning your puppy. Feeding a high quality food from the beginning will give your pup a super start in life.

How to wean

Once your puppy is around 3-4 weeks old you can start offering a small amount of Wolfworthy. We advise the best way to do this is to soak a small amount in water to allow your puppy to get used to the texture and taste.

You can either soak it over night in the fridge before mashing the next day or add hot water and let it soak and cool before breaking up with a fork (about 1 hour). We do not advise leaving it to soak on the countertop for more than 1 hour as in warmer weather this can encourage bacterial growth.

Wolfworthy won't make a paste in a few minutes like other foods, the high amount of meat means it is denser than lower meat products and we do not include grains that swell and soften easily in water.

Once the puppies have shown interest in the food and are eating it quite happily then the amount of water added can gradually be reduced over the next few weeks.

This will encourage the puppies to eat firmer food and by around 8 weeks should be eating it without the need to add water.

Hand-feeding is an excellent way to progress this and feeding individual pieces from your hand can also encourage a good association with the human!

During the weaning process, there is no set feeding amount. Let your puppy set the pace and monitor that everyone is getting a share.

Once they are happily eating the food without water you can start weighing the feeding amount to ensure they are being offered an appropriate amount. You can check how much to feed using our calculator below:
