Ingredients and Analytical Constituents

Have you seen analytical constituents on your bag of Wolfworthy, or any other pet food and wondered what they are? There can be confusion around the difference between ingredients and analytical constituents. This article will explain both.

Ingredients, or composition as they are sometimes referred to, are what goes into the recipe and are always listed in weight order, with the largest ingredient first. This then continues in descending order with a good quality food listing its ingredients by their specific names, rather than a vague description of ingredients. If you see things like meat and animal derivatives, cereals or vegetable derivatives it is worth spending some time finding out exactly what these are.

Analytical constituents is a nutritional analysis which shows the percentage levels of protein, fat, fibre and ash. They are also a legal requirement and must be listed on your pet food packaging. None of the listed analytical constituents are added to the food rather it is an analysis of the ingredients used to make the food.

Wolfworthy’s Analytical Constituents are listed as follows:

Crude Protein (36%), Crude Oils & Fats (19%), Crude Fibres (2%), Crude Ash (9%), Moisture (8%), NFE (26%), Omega 6 (2.8%), Omega 3 (1.8%), Calcium (1.3%), Phosphorous (1.1%), Ca:P ratio 1.2:1, Energy 402 Kcal/100g.

We do not add crude ash or crude oil to our food. We only add the finest ingredients to each and every bag of Wolfworthy.  Crude ash simply refers to the mineral content of the pet food and is determined chemically during the production process.

You can use the analytical constituents to compare dog foods. However,  protein can include things like chicken feathers which are indigestible, so although some foods may look high in protein, many ingredients are poor quality and offer no real benefit to your pet. This is why it is extremely important to look at the ingredients too. All of our ingredients are listed clearly for you to see and contain no nasties, only high quality, digestible protein and carbohydrates.

As mentioned earlier, we only include the highest quality ingredients and have nothing to hide. Click here to read more about our ingredients and the analytical constituents. If you have any questions about anything you have read, please do not hesitate to get in touch at support@wolfworthy.co.uk
